The shop has been well established for over 120 years, originally built by the Ainslie Brothers in 1901 on the street then known as Electric Parade and it was the first street in Clacton to be lit by electricity. The shop has always been a Butchers, Dewhurst bought the shop in the 1970’s, and then Meat inn took over in the early 1990’s
Gary the director of Pier Avenue Butchers started his career with Meat Inn as a Saturday boy whilst still at school. He trained at butchery college with Meat Ipswich as well as onsite training with some of the industries most experienced butchers. Eventually, Gary worked his way up becoming manager at Meat Inn Ipswich branch at the young age of 19.
Over 10 years with Meat inn managing Ipswich and working as relief manager for Meat Inn shops, the opportunity came up for Gary to take over Ownership in Clacton due to the meat Inn owners’ retirement.
